TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1 PARTICIPANTS
This competition is open to all amateur or professional photographers, of Spanish or any other nationality, as long as they are the authors of the images presented or own the rights to them.
2 CATEGORIES
The competition is divided into several categories and awards a special prize for each edition.
- Category 1 - LANDSCAPE. Unaltered natural landscapes.
- Category 2 - FAUNA. Vertebrate and invertebrate animals, any aspect.
- Category 3 - VEGETATION. Plant species in their original and native habitat.
- Category 4 - UNDERWATER. The underwater world, fresh or salt water.
- Category 5 - CREATIVE. Composition, texture, colour. Creative values.
- Category 6 - MAN AND NATURE. The relationship between human beings and their surroundings, both positive and negative.
- Category 7 - MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY. Images taken using macro photography techniques. Both invertebrate animals and plants shown in detail.
- Category 8 - BIODIVERSITY. The relationship between species, both animal and plant, showing their dependence on each other and the habitat. Particularly welcome if several species appear in the same image.
- Category 9 - FOTOCAM AEFONA. Exclusive category for partners of AEFONA (Photographers' Spanish Association of Nature). The theme is the nature in any of his aspects. The photographies must be realized in territory of the Spanish State.
- OVERALL WINNER OF FOTOCAM 2011. The best image is chosen from the winners of each category. The winner receives a cash prize of 6,000 euros, which includes the category prize, plus the overall prize.
The judges will be assessing images on the basis of their originality as well as their technical and compositional quality. In fauna photography, images of animals taken in the wild are particularly welcome.
The winners will receive a FOTOCAM 2011 certificate for the corresponding category and a cash prize.
CAM reserves the right to create an exhibition, publish a book, calendar,
audiovisual material or promote the competition through other media featuring the selected entries.
3 NUMBER
Each participating author may submit a maximum of FIVE photographs per category.
4 FORMAT
Images are only accepted in digital file formats, both captured by camera and quality scanned reproductions of slides or negatives.
Images can be sent on a CD or DVD without folders or subfolders. They can also be uploaded onto an FTP server from the competition website (www.fotocam.eu). They must be JPEG files with a resolution of 1,400 pixels, longest side, with maximum quality, never exceeding 2 Mb. You do not need to use both options, just one; either a CD/DVD or the FTP server.
In the processing of the images, only adjustments of luminosity, saturation, levels-contrast, colour temperature and focus, as well as the cleaning of dirt particles are permitted. Only minor resizing is permitted, of no more than 10%. The image cannot be righted and any distortions may not be corrected. Conversion to black and white is only permitted in category 5-Creative.
If selected for a prize, the original camera captured file will be required (RAW or JPEG) or the original slide or negative. Failure to submit this file or non-compliance with the regulations will lead to the disqualification of the image. Once uploaded onto the FTP server, images CANNOT be deleted, edited or substituted. If images have been successfully uploaded, confirmation will be received. To view the images, you do not need to fill in the form, just enter the username and password.
The filename must include the number of the category, the initials and surname of the author and the subject that appears in the image. Example: Cat2.jbruizl.eagleowl.
If the image is a scanned slide, the filename must begin with the letter D. E.g.D.Cat2.jbruizl.eagleowl.
If the subject has been photographed in captivity or its freedom of movement is restricted, the filename must include the letter C at the end. E.g.Cat2.jbruizl.eagleowl.C.
In the IPTC description field of each JPEG image (In Photoshop: “File - Get information - Description) the following details must be attached (see tutorial on the website):
- 1. Number of the category
- 2. Name and surname of the author
- 3. Contact details (telephone, address, e-mail)
- 4. Title of the image
- 5. Name of the subject or place shown in the photograph
Images must have this information included in the IPTC fields.
The completed registration form must be sent with the CD/DVD or uploaded onto the FTP server.
5 SPECIFICATIONS
Each author must provide:
- A CD/DVD or the images uploaded onto the FTP server with a maximum of 5 images per category, never on both media.
- JPEG files with 1,400 pixels, longest side, saved in the highest quality format.
- They must contain information required in section 4, in the IPTC description field.
- The completed form on the FTP or on paper if images are sent on CD or DVD.
6 CODE OF ETHICS
The judges may disqualify images of living beings if they suspect the subjects might have suffered damage or alteration of their behaviour by the activity of the photographer.
7 UNPUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHS
Photographs submitted must not have previously won any prizes or awards in other competitions.
8 SUBMISSION.
- Digital files may be uploaded onto the FTP server, where each author must complete the form (www.fotocam.eu).
- Digital media (CD or DVD) must be sent by post to the following address:

9 DEADLINES
The period for submission will close on September 15th 2011. After this, access to the FTP server will be closed.
10 PROPERTY
Participants must be the authors of the images submitted or must own the intellectual property rights to the same. By taking part in this competition, they authorise CAM to send information by e-mail about this competition. The winning authors yield free from not exclusive form to CAM, the right to reproduce the images on any medium, only for the promotion of the contest.
11 SELECTION PROCESS
Following the deadline for submission, there will be a pre-selection process to choose the images that will be evaluated by the members of the jury. The authors will receive electronic confirmation indicating that one or several of their images have been pre-selected.
Following the pertinent deliberations by members of the jury, the winners, finalists and runners-up of each category will be asked to send:
- The original captured files
- Maximum resolution files for reproduction
- A brief description of the image and a statement about the prize awarded
- The document, “autorización.doc” duly completed and signed.
- The signed original can be scanned
All this information may be uploaded onto a server once each photographer has received notification of their pre-selection. Text characters are limited.
12 RECYCLING OF MEDIA
At the end of the competition, the media on which digital files have been submitted shall be made unusable and recycled. Non prize-winning images submitted via the FTP server shall be deleted.
13 JURY
The jury shall be designated by CAM, comprising prestigious photographers and eminent environmental figures:
- Category 1 LANDSCAPE. José B. Ruiz. Presidente del jurado.
- Category 2 FAUNA. To be confirmed.
- Category 3 VEGETATION. To be confirmed.
- Category 4 UNDERWATER. Kathy Moran.
- Category 5 CREATIVE. To be confirmed.
- Category 6 MAN AND NATURE. To be confirmed.
- Category 7 MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY. Paul Harcourt Davies.
- Category 8 BIODIVERSITY. To be confirmed.
- Category 9 FOTOCAM-AEFONA. The jury of the category will be composed by a representative of CAM and 4 photographers of AEFONA designated by this one: Ana Retamero, Isabel Diez, Joan Gil, Joan Manel Puig and Octavio Vicent. This jury will not be able to present works to this category, but it could do it to the rest of them, which there has the only and different jury.
The jury's decisions shall be final and the prize-winners and the media shall be informed of these decisions when they are made public on various webpages as of November 2011.
The jury may declare one or several of the categories null and void if the quality of the images does not fulfil certain minimum standards determined by each judge.
The ABSOLUTE FOTOCAM WINNER promises to come personally to the Prizes Presentation Ceremony that will take place, except unforeseen events (that will be communicated in time and form), in the facilities of the CAM CEMACAM Torre Guil (Murcia, Spain) on June 16, 2012.
13 EXHIBITION AND SELECTED WORKS
The authors transfer to CAM the non-exclusive rights to reproduce prize-winning entries on any media in order to publicise the competition, making explicit mention of the authors of the same. Participation assumes the acceptance of these terms and conditions.
14 PRIZES
Se establecen los siguientes premios:
- OVERALL WINNER OF FOTOCAM 2011: The winner receives a cash prize of 6,000 euros, which includes the category prize and the overall prize, as well as a certificate.
- ONE WINNER PER CATEGORY: 1.500 plus a diploma.
- ONE FINALIST PER CATEGORY: 500 euros.
- 6 HONORARY MENTIONS PER CATEGORY: Certificate.
15 ACCEPTANCE
Participation in this photography competition implies the knowledge and acceptance of the competition terms and conditions. Any breach of these terms and conditions could lead to disqualification.
